Oct. 24--DAVIE -- Strong winds are to blame for an early morning fire at a restaurant on Davie Road just south of Interstate 595, a town spokesman said Friday.
Wind gusts knocked down the second "s" in the lit sign for Shoney's restaurant, said Davie spokesman Braulio Rosa. That ultimately set off a fire that damaged the restaurant's roof and worked its way into the kitchen, he said.
Firefighters responded at around 5:47 a.m. and were able to put the blaze out quickly, Rosa said. The restaurant was not open or occupied at the time, and no one was injured.
