The story started from about July end, when some of the White House officials who have apparently decided to abandon plots to threaten Iran with war and military action in a tactical u-turn speculated about opening an American interests section on Iran's soil. At that time the American newspaper Boston Globe mentioned in its editorial: "During past decades Iranians have been deprived of America's consular service and American diplomats have lost direct contact with Iran's government and its people. People of Iran are generally the most pro-American people in the Middle East (!) Yet they are frustrated and annoyed that they must first travel to a small office located in Dubai before travelling to America. This is a blatant contradiction of Bush's repeated affirmations of respect for the people of Iran."
