Though the vice-presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden now seems as old as the Wars of the Roses, it should not be forgotten that the moderator, PBS anchor Gwen Ifill, had an interest in the outcome. Ifill is the author of The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, due out in January. The break-out for The Breakthrough will obviously be bigger if the man in its title is being sworn in as president that month.
