Section: General News - Amid the challenges posed by the financial crunch around the globe, including the Philippines, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday night called on the media to be instruments of hope for the Filipinos.

The President issued the call at the formal opening Friday (Oct. 17) of the P1-billion state-of-the-art GMA Network Studios in Diliman, Quezon City, as she cited mass media's influential role in the lives of the people.

Media plays a large role in the public life of our nation. People rely on it for news and understanding. Owners and reporters, like public officials, have a deep obligation to upholding the public good, the President stressed.
