Expatriates in Bahrain are phoning home more often than ever, thanks to cheaper international call rates. The country's telecom companies are also cashing in, raking in nearly BHD 300 million between them last year. TRA chairman Mohammed Al Amer said international call charges dropped by an average 56 percent during 2005-2007. There was a 77 percent growth in international outgoing minutes between 2006 and 2007, Al Amer told the Gulf Daily News. The average cost per minute fell from 150 fils to 100 fils.
