BMW RETAINS F1 DRIVERS
The BMW-Sauber team announced that drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld will return for the 2009 season. Heidfeld's future with the team had been in doubt, and former world champion Fernando Alonso had been mentioned in Formula One circles as a possible replacement. Alonso now looks almost certain to remain at Renault next season.
LUCZO DRAGON SIGNS MATOS
IndyCar Series team Luczo Dragon Racingco-owned by Roger Penske's youngest son, Jay, and Steve Luczohas signed 2007 Atlantic Series champion and 2008 Indy Lights champion Raphael Matos, 27, to drive for the team full-time in 2009. Luczo Dragon will contest the entire 2009 IndyCar schedule, the first time it has done so.
DEI LOSES MENARD
NASCAR driver Paul Menard will take his father's considerable sponsorship clout to Yates Racing next year, another blow to the deteriorating environment at Dale Earnhardt Inc. The once-powerful four-car Chevrolet organization has only one solid sponsorBass Pro Shops for Martin Truex Jr.returning next year and is losing part-time driver Mark Martin and his Army sponsorship. Even so, the company expects to field full-schedule cars in 2009 for Truex, Aric Almirola and Regan Smith.
