Oct. 15--A 21-year-old West Palm Beach man authorities said repeatedly tried to partially suffocate his girlfriend's baby because he was jealous of the attention the infant received pleaded guilty to a lesser charge on Tuesday.

Initially charged with four counts of aggravated child abuse -- each carrying a 30-year maximum sentence -- Carl Soto pleaded guilty to a single count of child abuse.

The state dismissed the three other counts as part of the negotiated plea deal. Palm Beach Circuit Judge Sandra McSorley sentenced Soto to five years of probation with the special conditions that he has no unsupervised contact with children …
