Top management generally involve themselves most heavily in the formulation of a written overall development plan. However, other roles, including allocation of funding and time, resolution of IS staff's conflicts with the expert systems project team, user involvement, and training receive relatively little attention. Lack of top management involvement was also found to have a negative influence on ES quality. Some practical guidelines were suggested for corporate senior executives interested in expanding their role and improving the management of ES development projects.
