Baidu, the Chinese search engine, has spent dollars 15 million to launch its own online TV station.

The investment means Baidu can own an 8.3 per cent stake in the online video platform UiTV, which will be used to operate the company's Internet TV channel.

The channel will allow users to download movies and TV shows authorised by platforms, including Enlight and TVB.
