THE BRIGHTON PORT AUTHORITY SOUTHERN FRIED RECORDS GOT THE BALL ROLLING on its launch efforts for The Brighton Port Authority over the weekend, tying promotional activity in with the Big Beach Boutique festival in Brighton, where, in a bold move, every ticket holder received a free, six-track CD sampler of the album.
Some 22,500 copies of the CD were handed out to ticket holders, with Southern Fried hoping to push the act as well as capture data ahead of the release of their debut album, entitled We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat, which hits stores on January 26 2009.
The CDs will also be used as a platform to drive people to The BPA's official website, where a further free track can be downloaded by entering a promotional code found on the CD. Customers will be able to download the debut BPA single, Toe Jam, which was released digitally earlier this year.
Southern Fried label manager Katy Ellis says that with Norman Cook headlining the fourth annual Big Beach Boutique festival, the event provided an opportunity to reach a target audience that they felt confident would react positively to The BPA, a collaborative project that sees the DJ and solo artist in the production hotseat.
