JAZZ FM is to mark its october 6 relaunch by releasing the first in a series of compilation CDs.
The Sound Of Jazz FM 2008 will be released on Jazz FM's own label through Pinnacle on October 20.
The double CD will include tracks from Chaka Khan, Swing Out Sister and Bobby Womack and is designed to reflect the station's playlist, which enterprise director Robert O'Dowd says will be a mix of styles, comparable to the typical line-up at London's Jazz Cafe.
In the past, some 75% of Jazz FM's revenue came from non-airtime sources like CDs and live events.
"They had a very successful record label," O'Dowd says. "The landscape has changed dramatically since then. But it is our objective to grow the enterprise division to something comparable [to before]."
