Capital FM set to make splash with first multi-act event since 2004's Party In The Park
By Paul Williams
GLOBAL RADIO'S CAPITAL 95.8 FM is staging its biggest live music event in years with around 15 acts set to perform at The O2 arena.
Four years after the London station's last Party In The Park multi- artist event in Hyde Park, it was this morning (Monday) due to announce on air that it would be holding the Jingle Bell Ball at the North Greenwich venue on December 10.
"This is very special," says Global Radio chief executive Ashley Tabor. "It will take place 10 days after the companies are fully integrated into Global Radio and it's a testament to us plugging Capital FM back into the music industry."
The group's executive director and director of broadcasting Richard Park, who as Capital Radio group programme director oversaw Party In The Park, says, "Since Ashley and I put the whole Global Radio thing together this has been high up on our agenda. We want to put on a show that will earmark London as a centre of contemporary hit music and showcase as many contemporary hit acts as possible."
The first three acts that were due to be announced in Johnny Vaughan's breakfast show are one-time Party In The Park performers Boyzone, Pussycat Dolls and The Script, while Park says two other acts will be announced on air at five this evening, with the remainder of the line- up to be unveiled by the station over the coming days.
