Sculley's exit makes room for William Johnson

DOWNTOWN - After years of speculation, H. J. Heinz Co. has apparently chosen the successor to chairman and chief executive Anthony J. F. O'Reilly.

Interest in the company's succession was piqued two weeks ago by the resignation of senior vice president David Sculley, a presumed leading candidate for the post.

The food service giant announced last week that William Johnson has been appointed president and chief operating officer. The titles were previously held by Mr. O'Reilly.
