Since 1990, Teach For America (TFA) has placed 17,000 teachers in more than 1,000 high-need schools, and the organization has ambitious plans for expanding more rapidly. This year, 24,700 college seniors applied for about 3,700 teaching slots. In this new book, journalist Donna Foote follows four recent college graduates through TFA's summer boot camp and their rookie year in the classroom at Locke High School in Los Angeles (which has since joined the Green Dot Public Schools network). The author takes readers deep into the lives of these smart, talented, and highly motivated TFA corps members.
