Now that 100-megabit-per-second (Mbps) Fast Ethernet is well established, its time to look toward the next speed level. Last month, a group of chip makers and networking vendors formed the Gigabit Ethernet Alliance.

Members of the Alliance include 3Com, Bay Networks, Cabletron, Cisco, Compaq, LSI Logic, Network Peripherals, Packet Engines Inc., Sun, UB Networks and VLSI Technology.
