IS managers will be able to set up secure virtual private networks (VPNs) over the Internet using the Internet Engineering Task Force's IPSec security interoperability protocol with the next version of the Unix-based Eagle firewall software from Raptor Systems Inc.
IPSec allows secure endpoints using different encryption systems to communicate securely. Raptor officials said Eagle 4.0 will allow companies to set up secure VPN tunnels through the Internet, enabling the selective encryption of specific applications.
Raptor officials said the company will probably add support for the Point to Point Tunneling Protocol being promoted by Microsoft Corp.
