ASTON REVIVES LAGONDA
Aston Martin plans to revive the Lagonda brand to build luxury cars.
"We have now investigated and concluded that the revival of the Lagonda brand would allow us to develop cars which can have a different character than a sports car, and therefore offer a perfect synergy, Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez said in a statement.
Aston intends to unveil a Lagonda concept next year, with an eye toward starting production in 2012. With recent reports that Aston has been talking with Daimler about shared projects, it is possible that Lagonda cars could make use of components or technology from Maybach or Mercedes-Benz.
The Lagonda badge was last seen on radically styled luxury sedans from 1978 through 1989.
