Oh, how things have changed.
As the series heads to Detroit's Belle Isle for the season's penultimate race, there is a different feeling throughout the paddock. So hold off on Dixon's coronation, although the 2003 champion still could join Sam Hornish Jr. as the Indy Racing League's only multiple titleholders. And hold the pity for Castroneves, who entered the race at Infineon Raceway with seven second-place finishes and zero trips to victory lane this season.
You might call Castroneves's win on the 2.3-mile road course in Sonoma a Hollywood ending of sorts. He halted a 29-race losing streak dating to last year's street-course win in St. Petersburg, Fla., and with Briscoe's second-place finish gave Team Penske a week it will never forget.
