CORVETTE TO GT2
Corvette Racing appears increasingly likely to move from the GT1 class to GT2 as early as the middle of next season. A proposal is on the table that would see the existing Corvette C6.R GT1 car race in the American Le Mans Seriesup to and including the 24 Hours of Le Mansbefore Chevrolet switches to a GT2 version. The new car, developed, as was its predecessor, by Pratt & Miller, then would take part in selected ALMS races during the second half of the season.
"We will hopefully get to a 95 percent answer very soon, said General Motors road-racing boss Steve Wesoloski. "Over the next six weeks, budgets will be finalized, so we can determine the 2009 program in detail.
SPEED SCHEDULE
Scott Speed's impressive stock-car season is putting pressure on Team Red Bull. The former Formula One driver recently won the Craftsman Truck Series pole and finished third in his first-ever Bristol race. He was seventh in his first-ever ARCA dirt-track race and has a truck win to go along with four in ARCA, where he leads the points. Expect him to make a few Cup starts this fall, but Red Bull seems to want him to run the full 2009 truck season before racing Cup full-time in 2010.
DIXON IN FOR PETIT
Indianapolis 500 champion and 2008 IndyCar Series points leader Scott Dixon will co-drive De Ferran Motorsports' Acura ARX-01b LMP2 prototype at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on Oct. 4.
