Paddy's Revenge by Steve Mac dashes to the top of the Upfront chart this week, crushing nearest challenger Sylvia Tosun's Underlying Feeling by a margin of 22.4%.

The track is based on The Penguin Cafe Orchestra's Music For A Found Harmonium, whose simple, jig-style qualities have attracted many cover versions over the years. The genius of Steve Mac's version is to amplify its Celtic credentials while adding an irresistible dance beat.

In addition to its enormous popularity in clubs, Paddy's Revenge is getting massive support from Radio One and MTV Dance, but surprisingly little elsewhere - Kiss 100, for example, aired it only once last week. That seems likely to change, however, as the track is released today (Monday) and looks destined for major sales success.

Incidentally, the Steve Mac in question is Steve McGuinness, the Brighton-based house DJ and producer who was formerly half of The Rhythm ...
