ACCORDING TO THE CALENDAR, it's a little too late to give your PC a good spring cleaning, but that's no excuse for letting virtual debris litter your hard drive. Free Window Sweeper 1.1 does double duty, letting you get rid of temporary files and Windows Log files wasting precious drive space, while also deleting browser search histories, instant messaging histories, and other traces of computer activity that you want removed from your system. The interface consists of a simple checklist of applications and settings that you can choose to clean up, but there are some advanced features for serious tweakers: custom lists of folders and files to monitor, granular control of browser cookies, and the ability to overwrite deleted data up to 10 times.

Even if you've made the switch to Firefox 3 (see our review on p. 45), there are still some occasions you may need to load up Internet Explorer: Some sites may print out better in IE than Firefox, or a Web developer might want to view how his or her site is working in both browsers. IE Tab 1.5 saves you the trouble of booting up Internet Explorer; this Firefox plug-in lets you view sites in IE within Firefox itself. Just click the icon at the bottom right of your browser window to toggle between Firefox and IE views.
