EDITORS' CHOICE [check] EVERY ONCE IN A LONG WHILE, a game comes along that does everything right. Mass Effect, the PC version of the Xbox 360 hit, delivers the most enjoyable, deep, and detailed gameplay that we have experienced on a desktop.
Unlike many developers of console-to-PC ports, BioWare . has fully optimized the game for the PC. Mass Effect is a rich, sprawling game with a storyline suitable for a Hollywood blockbuster. The story puts you in the shoes of Commander Shepard, the first human agent of the Council, a group that represents the major alien races. The Council's agents, known as "Spectres," have nearly limitless power when acting on the behalf of the Council.
Mass Effect is a squad-based game, and controlling the two members of your squad is easy. In fact, all the controls in the game are well-thought-out (as well as remappable). As far as weapons and power go, it's all about the biotic abilities.
