TRAVELERS MAY SOON be able to pass through airport security lines without removing their laptops from their cases.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has created new guidelines for bag makers to follow and is currently reviewing the first checkpoint-friendly laptop cases.
The TSA requires that cases be designed to allow for a perfect view of the laptop through an X-ray machine. The sleeve that contains the laptop must not have any obstructive parts, such as zippers, buckles, or pockets, in its front and back panels.
Security officers have problems peering into existing notebook cases with X-ray equipment, in part because a laptop can be obscured by the extra gear packed with it. More than 25 percent of travelers carry a laptop through security, says the TSA.
