The purpose of this article is to compare what is actually happening in client/server computing to what is being reported, from the types of applications being implemented to the obstacles of implementing client/server applications. This paper is based on an exploratory survey of client/server computing issues. The survey was sent to a cross-section of companies and organizations in Florida. Fifty companies were selected for the survey, and 22 responses were returned from these companies.
The organizations responding included public and private utilities, major hospitals, county government, educational institutions, retailers, and Fortune 500 manufacturers. The ...
