TV, fighting to hold its own against competing attractions, should find ammunition in some of the books lined up for the coming season.
From Neil Baldwin, executive director of the National Book Foundation, The American Masters Series, seen on PBS, is acquiring rights to Man Ray: American Artist (Clarkson N. Potter). PW designated Baldwin's biography one of the year's best in 1988. With the author doing his own adaptation and acting as associate producer, the film is to be made by Mel Stuart Productions. The total price for Baldwin's contribution will be in the mid-six figures.
