Building the dream team: how data centers & vendors become partners.
"Partnership" - the latest buzzword among the vendors of information technology - is a term tough-minded data center managers sometimes resist.
While some vendors reach the rarefied status of partner, according to Dave Deluhery, Manager of Computing Services at Nike Corporation's mega-data-center in Portland, Oregon, "others just stay vendors. And I'm the one who will say who my partners are."
Deluhery's skepticism is rooted in the understanding that true partnerships are made, not self-proclaimed. They result from the carefully crafted service that savvy data centers and committed IT vendors shape together through a long process of trust-building.
