IP Office 500 System Unit with Phone 30 Expansion Module and Digital Station 30 Expansion ModuleAvaya announces a new software release and new hardware for its IP Office telephony solution designed for small and mid-size businesses (SMBs). Release 4.2 software adds new mobility solutions and enhances voice messaging, and a new 1700 series of IP telephones will become available in November 2008. IP Office 500 (pictured with Expansion Modules) is Avaya's newest IP Office platform which functions as an IP or circuit-switched PBX that handles up to 272 users and comes with several applications free of charge or optional enhanced applications added via license keys. The IP Office family also includes the earlier IP Office Small Office Edition, IP Office 406v2 and IP Office 412.
What's New with R4.2? Avaya's Mobility Features license adds two enhancements (in addition to Mobile Twinning): (1) Mobile Call Control lets users dial star codes to hold, transfer, toggle or conference calls and (2) Avaya's one-X Mobile Client for Small Business, a new graphical user interface for Windows Mobile 5, Windows Mobile 6 and Symbian Single-Mode intelligent devices, lets users manage calls through IP Office with one number service. Both new capabilities are for IP Office 500 only and must use ISDN PRI or BRI or SIP trunk types. Unlike the previous version, the new Mobility capability does not require that the user be logged into an extension to receive a twinned call.
IP Office messaging solutions are also enhanced. New features for the IP Office Embedded Voicemail card option include Cantonese language support and the ability to forward a message or message alert to e-mail (available for IP Office406v2 or IP Office 500). In addition, the IP Office Voicemail Pro (a more fully-featured option) introduces Unified Messaging Service, a replacement for the earlier Integrated Messaging Service. UMS adds IMAP compatibility and Web browser access to voicemail messages, including listening to messages and forwarding to others in a Small Community Network.
