Laser Vision to add excimer lasers despite restrictions. (Laser Vision Centers Inc.)

Federal restrictions on the use of excimer lasers could dampen profits for Laser Vision Centers Inc. But the company said it is pressing forward with plans to install eight additional excimer lasers throughout the United States.

One of the new locations would be in west St. Louis County, where Laser Vision could face competition from a one-year-old, privately held company, EyeShapers Laser Center of St. Louis.

EyeShapers filed a letter with the state earlier this month, saying it intended to apply for a Certificate of Need to open a center only a couple of miles from Laser Vision's site.
