Byline: CURT CAVIN
For a race seemingly void of significant passes, there was a lot to talk about following the Rexall Edmonton Indy, the first Canadian race in IndyCar Series history. The event formerly was part of the now-defunct Champ Car World Series.
Scott Dixon tied Ganassi Racing teammate Dan Wheldon for the lead in career wins by an active driver (15; Sam Hornish Jr. is the all-time leader with 19), while fellow championship contender Helio Castroneves locked his brakes and slid off course in a failed late passing attempt for the top spot.
Marco Andretti refused to follow team orders and let fellow Andretti Green Racing driver Tony Kanaan pass him. Then Andretti ran into the back of Danica Patrick, who, oh, by the way, also drives for AGR.
Rookie Mario Moraes knocked series newcomer Graham Rahal off course on lap one, and another newbie, E. J. Viso, body-slammed Rahal out of the race later on.
Justin Wilson finally delivered the type of podium-earning drive everyone has waited for from the former Formula One competitor and two-time Champ Car World Series title runner-up. But he only claimed third place after fending off another ex-Champ Car standout, Paul Tracy, who chased him to the end line for third.
Obviously, there is much to chew on.
