Enough with the doom and gloom about cars, already. It's summer, and cars are still fun. Going places and doing things with cars got more expensive this year, but the cars and the things didn't suddenly become drudgery and boredom.
So, you'll pay a little more to go on vacation, or on a cruise up Woodward or the PCH, or to the races or the concours. So? We love cars. We'll budget more for what we love and carve back somewhere else. Maybe a cell phone doesn't have to sing and dance, and we can settle for one that makes phone calls. If we're going to be on the road, maybe we need only 200 TV channels instead of 500 or Internet access at three megabytes per second instead of 12. Two tickets to an overrated summer "blockbuster'' plus popcorn and drinks add up to half a tank of gasoline or more. Pick one; rent a move for home. Heck, you're still making payments on that big TV. Brats and brews still make a good barbecue with your car friends; feed the gas tank the extra you'd have spent on shrimp or porterhouse or single malt.
This isn't really adviceit's what I know ...
