In the 1940s, the world was I suddenly at war!
Parents had the newspaper headlines and the radio (but no television) to tell them about the gunfire and bombs falling in England and France.
Child Life readers had letters from children who were experiencing the of World War Two. In May 1940, a letter titled "Caught in War Zone" described how two Child Life readers I had journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean to escape the fighting. Their ship was so packed with families fleeing the war that the swimming pool was drained and filled with cots to become a dormitory.
While Child Life continued to publish puzzles, games and stories, many articles tried to help …
