Five weeks after it topped the sales chart, Viva La Vida moves up to number one on the radio airplay chart. Its success coinciding with parent album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' return to the albums chart summit, the track moves 4-1 in a keenly fought battle for chart honours with The Kooks' Shine On, Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown's No Air and Kid Rock's All Summer Long, all of which also registered an audience of more than 50m. Its victory was fair and square, however, as it had not just the week's highest audience (54.17m) but also its second highest tally of plays (2,287). Viva La Vida's accession comes just nine weeks after Coldplay's previous single Violet Hill completed its two-week run at the top of the chart.
The only song to be aired more frequently than Viva La Vida last week was Gabriella Cilmi's Sweet About Me, with 2,498 airings. Sweet About Me looked to be a strong candidate for number one too, having leapt 7-2 last week but it slides to number five, primarily because some of the more influential radio stations have moved on to the 16-year-old Aussie's follow-up, Save The Lies, which secures ...
