Various: The Top Of The Pops Collection (EMI Gold 2280872)

Bringing together individual releases spanning 1964-2006 to commemorate the BBC's long-running chart show Top Of The Pops, this 43-CD box set is very impressive, housing 875 tracks, of which 600 made the Top 10 and more than 150 reached number one. Each album is packaged with contemporaneous cover pictures and contains a 12-page booklet, with Dave McAleer's liner notes adding a flavour of the time.

The Times: Enjoy/Up Against It (Artpop! ARTPOP 1516)/Pop Goes Art! (ARTPOP 20)

Post-punk outfit The Times never managed to reach the charts. But they left behind these releases, which are finally restored to catalogue with bonus tracks. 1982's Pop Goes Art! was Edward Ball and former Televisions Personalities member Daniel Treacy's intriguing debut, full of inventive, well-drilled angular pop. Their two 1986 albums Enjoy and Up Against It are combined together onto one CD, and are full of succinct stories and keen observations.

Various: The Girl Can't Help It (PoppyDiscs/After Hours STERLCD 001)

Director Frank Tashlin's satirical and seminal 1956 movie The Girl Can't Help It! provided starring roles for Jayne Mansfield and Tom Ewell but, more importantly, captured on celluloid performances from many of the stars of the burgeoning rock `n' roll movement, including Fats Domino singing Blue Monday, Little Richard's dynamic performance of the title track and Gene Vincent's Be-Bop-A-Lula. All appear on this expanded version of the soundtrack album, alongside the jazzier sophistication of Julie London's Cry Me A River and five bonus tracks.
