First Drive: 2009 Chevrolet Traverse
Chevy gets its own version of the popular crossover
General Motors is aiming for volume and for the sweet spot of the market with its latest crossover, the Chevrolet Traverse, which joins the Buick Enclave, the Saturn Outlook and the GMC Acadia.
While the other three cater to certain niches, the Chevy's looks and its family-oriented handling are expected to give it the widest appeal.
GM says the Traverse has the most "controlled'' ride of the quartet, meant to ensure that up to eight passengers ride comfortably. But this isn't a softer model like the Buick. We threw the Chevy into sharp turns at 70 mphfaster than most trips to soccer practice or the supermarket would warrantand it responded ably.
