Byline: CURT CAVIN
The measure of Scott Dixon's dominance in the IndyCar Series over the past year and a half is evident in one number: Since Helio CastronevesDixon's closest champion-ship challengerlast won a race, Dixon has won seven.
"Kind of hard to believe when you put it like that,'' the 2008 Indianapolis 500 winner said. "Yeah, I guess it's a little hard to complain.''
Even if he wanted to.
Things have gone so swimmingly for the Kiwi that he barely has been out of the top four in qualifying or in a race since winning the season-opening event last season. Dixon's streak in the race category is eight of the past nine events, and he might have fared as well in qualifying had all of the sessions been held, but rain washed out two.
Dixon's lead over Castro-neves after a fourth-place finish at Richmond (see page 38) is 43 points, essentially the equivalent of a race. Dixon's strength is seen in many examples.
He finished first or second in 10 of 17 races last year, losing the series champion-ship to Dario Franchitti only when his leading car ran out of fuel in the penultimate corner on the last lap of the season at Chicagoland Speedway.
