Daring Highlights
Wearing a few pink or blue streaks in your hair is punk but in a laid-back way, says NYC hairstylist Garren, who gave models rainbow-colored extensions at the Anna Sui show.
Do It Keep the placement haphazard. "Don't overthink it," says Garren. "It should seem like you just grabbed a highlighter or magic marker and colored your hair on a whim." If you're doing temporary highlights, lift your hair up and away from your scalp in small sections. Paint the dye (like Streekers in Pink or Blue, $9.95) on dry hair in long strokes from root to tip. Let it set for about a minute, and layer on more if you want a bolder look. For extensions, sweep back the top layer of your hair, and clip in extensions around the crown, getting them as close to the root as you can. If you have fine hair, tease it first to create some grab, recommends stylist Sam Leonardi. "Then let the top layer fall over the extensions so you'll see the color peek out when you move or shake your head," says Leonardi.
Undo It The beauty of temporary dye is that it washes out in one shampoo (or two, at most). If not, rinse with a tablespoon of vinegar to remove any leftover residue. Clip-in extensions should pop right out. But if one does get stuck in a tangle, mist the problem spot with leave-in conditioner, and wiggle out the extension, says Leonardi.
Electric Lips
Bright lip colors are superhot now ... and you'll feel sexier the second you swipe them on. "Rich pinks, fuchsia, and raspberry look amazing against fair and dark complexions," says New York makeup artist Matin.
