1 Get a Great Night's Sleep
You can feel Zenlike after pampering, but spas are discovering that you can even help relieve insomnia if you time your treatments right. "Doing relaxation moves in the morning, not just at night, may help you rest better," says Kristen Haines, owner of Euphoria Spa in NYC. "The idea is to fend off stress before you're tossing in bed." So do quick moves that keep stress-related cortisol levels low. First, sprinkle some rose oil into your morning shower gel. "The scent is calming but won't make you drowsy," says Haines. Angle the showerhead so the water hits between your shoulder blades, like a minimassage, to loosen up any stiffness. During the day, press the area between your thumb and index finger every so often. "It's a pressure point that slows your heart rate," says Haines.
In the evening, just give yourself a soothing foot rub to help you nod off faster. "Do this as a ritual to take your mind off the day," says Haines. Grab lavender oil, and work it into your feet. Press your thumb into your arch, and run it down to your toes. Squeeze the sides of your feet with your palm, and rotate your feet in slow circles to help you unwind. Then fall back into the sheets ... and zzz.
