An industry alliance last week released the final beta version of a set of specifications that will enable developers to create computer-telephony integration (CTI) systems that work irrespective of computer platform, telephone switch, or underlying network.

The Versit alliance -- which includes Apple Computer Inc., IBM, Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T Systems and Technologies Business), and Siemens Rolm Communications Inc. -- is offering its CTI Encyclopedia, which can be downloaded from the group's World Wide Web site or ordered by calling (800) 803-6240.

Some of the specifications were culled from the Telephony Services API, which was developed by Novell Inc. …
