If only Israel were being as clear-eyed about Hamas. Israel and the terror group came to an arrangement to stop their low-level tit-for-tat warfare for six months. But almost as soon as the ceasefire was supposed to start, missiles were again striking southern Israel, revealing how Hamas is able to set the agenda. Prior to the deal, the Israeli army had been set on a large-scale military operation to put an end to Hamas's barrage. Instead it consented to have Egypt mediate on its behalf with Hamas. Such a concession to terrorists in itself allowed a jubilant Hamas to claim that its missiles had brought victory, and that Israel had had no choice but to recognize it.
