Corporate giants pay big for refurbished computers

Not seven months old, Cyclix Engineering Corp. is scrambling to meet agreements signed with AST Research and American Airlines worth millions of dollars.

What's perhaps more surprising than Cyclix's success is the computer component supplier's market niche. In an industry whose mantra is "new, newer, newest," Cyclix is rehabbing old components for resale.

AST's open-ended agreement with Irving-based Cyclix is worth about $800,000 a year, said Philip Wise, president of Cyclix. A just-signed contract with American Airlines is valued at $3.8 million over four-and-a-half years.
