Rohm and Haas (R&H) says it will impose an index-based raw material and energy surcharge starting this month to products made by its specialty material businesses. R&H says it developed the index based on costs of crude oil, natural gas, and its major raw material purchases. These include ethanol, acetone cyanohydrin, styrene, butadiene, propylene, tin, acetone, butanol, methanol, vinyl acetate monomer, and ammonia.

"The surcharge is weighted to reflect the appropriate mix in product technology and will be adjusted up--or down--each month to reflect changes in costs," the company spokesperson says.
