CITROEN, TOO?
Citroen also might quit the WRC and join Germany's DTM touring-car series in 2010. Team boss Olivier Quesnel said that today's WRC marketing is not enough to keep Citroen in the sport beyond 2009 and that promotion of the WRC needs to improve significantly before he commits to developing a new car for the rule changes in 2010.
FRENTZEN JOINS ASTON MARTIN
Former Formula One race winner Heinz-Harald Frentzen will join Aston Martin's factory team for this June's 24 Hours of Le Mans. Frentzen, who quit F1 at the end of 2003 and then had three unproductive seasons in the DTM series, has raced at Le Mans only once, in 1992 in a EuroRacing team Lola. However, he came to prominence in Group C sports-car racing in 1990 as a member of the Mercedes-Benz Junior team with Michael Schumacher and Karl Wendlinger, and the latter will drive with him in a GT1-class DBR9, along with Andrea Piccini. David Brabham, Antonio Garcia and Darren Turner will drive Aston's other Le Mans entry.
SIGNING UP
Contracts were a popular topic during NASCAR's weekend at Richmond International Raceway. Carl Edwards confirmed that he extended his deal with Roush Fenway Racing, although neither he nor team co-owner Jack Rush gave details. Joe Gibbs and Rick Hendrick are believed also to have courted Edwards.
Roush Fenway president Geoff Smith is also working on a three- to five-year extension with Greg Biffle. At Dale Earnhardt Inc., team president Max Siegel is working on an extension with Martin Truex Jr., who's signed through next season. Talk also persisted that Bobby Labonte had extended his contract with Petty Enterprises for several more years, though neither side would confirm or deny.
