It's not unusual to see girls in leadership positions these days, but plenty of girls still shy away from leading, missing out on the confidence boost and skill-building that leadership brings. "Exploring Girls' Leadership," an insightful report from the Girl Scout Research Institute, says more girls will step up as leaders when we help them recognize that leadership comes in more than one version. For example, a third of girls perceive leadership as a top-down model, and fear that being a decision-maker could jeopardize friendships. While 80% of girls said that girls are just as good as boys at being leaders, only slightly more than a third of girls (36%) said they're interested in being a leader when they are older.
