General Motors and Volkswagen settle the Inaki Lopez affair. VW pays $100 million and promises to buy $1 billion in GM parts over seven years. VW admits that Lopez "may have'' done something illegal in 1995, bringing GM plans with him when he changed employers. VW returns the documents.
BMW-owned Rover teases with a concept car called the Mini Cooper ACV30 at the conclusion of the Monte Carlo rally.

At Disney World, driver Davy Jones suffers a concussion in the first IRL race using its new Dallara chassis and 4.0-liter V8 formula. Robby Gordon is burned badly at Indy. Safety concerns lead to several changes, not to mention requiring oil "diapers'' at Indy. In a parallel development, the use of the HANS device spreads rapidly throughout racing.
Arie Luyendyk wins the twice-rain-delayed Indy 500 on a Tuesday. Tony Stewart wins the IRL series title.
