Object-oriented databases: how do we get there from here?

Ever since the introduction of the Entity-Relationship (ER) Model, relational databases have been easier to design and implement, Extensions to the ER model bring even more powerful, graphical conceptual design techniques to the architect's toolbox.

This Extended ER (ERR) model can now be used for designing both object-oriented and relational database. Very simple pragmatic rules are outlined to convert from the EER model to both relational and object-oriented data-bases. This provides a migration path for database application software.
