Byline: CURT CAVIN
If this is what we should come to expect from a unified IndyCar Series, there's much to like.
From Graham Rahal's stirring win in the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg to the competitiveness of the 26-car field, the squabbles that once divided open-wheel racing seem like a distant memory.
After the race, the top-three-finishing drivers all begged for the media to stop talking about us versus them or Champ Car versus the Indy Racing League.
"We're all in a single series now, and I think that's the way we need to approach it,'' Rahal said. "We're all working together to make this what it used to be.''
Sunday's rain-shortened race showed the talent the two sides bring to the table. Six drivers representing former Champ Car teams finished in the top 10. Four such drivers were among the eight to the lead the race. Obviously, drivers whose teams were in the IRL last season claimed the rest of the spots, and one of them-Tony Kanaan-won the pole.
Even qualifying was fun.
