Each of us has a personal portfolio of fun, things we like to do more than anything else, just because of their grin factor. Some of those things seem pretty stupid as we grow older (and maybe wiser), but others never really change. For me, driving small-bore sports cars is still in the latter category, and the activity has been in my PPF (personal portfolio of fun) since 1963.
At first, I figured that I liked blasting around in a friend's Frogeye Sprite, Mini, MG or even Sunbeam Alpine because each car was a novelty to me. But it soon became apparent, as I cadged drives in everything with wheels (I was addicted), that though I enjoyed everything with an engine, small-bore sports cars and motorcycles scored highest on the fun scale. The passage of decades, in which I raced and tested more vehicles than I can count, never changed that. Finally, I was able to write a formula for my personal fun in cars and bikes: Light and simple equals more fun. Or L + S = MF.
