Containerized exports shipped through the Port of Oakland increased 28.9 percent to 80,023 TEUs in February compared to the same month in 2007.

Exports also gained 6.46 percent from the January total of 75,153 TEUs.

Loaded import containers fell 2.1 percent to 64,204 TEUs in February from a year ago. For the year, full export containers are up 13.8 percent to 155,176 TEUS, while full import containers are off 3.1 percent to 129,903 TEUs.

Like other major U.S. container ports, the number of empty containers leaving the port plummeted, dropping 22.9 percent to 14,602 TEUs from the previous year on stronger …
