The Fabulous Fifties Concours d'Provenance lived up to its title without the pompous style usually associated with French-named car shows.
"It's a car show, but we're more interested in the people associated with the cars,'' said Art Evans, a founding father of Fabulous Fifties. Evans, a racing historian and former distributor of Devin sports cars, and Bill Pollack, noted Allard racer, started Fabulous Fifties as a social group, a self-described "nonorganization,'' in the 1970s to keep the memories and the spirit of postwar racing alive.
The people Evans refers to include fellow Fabulous Fifties "nonmembers'' Phil Hill (grand marshall in absentia), Dan Gurney, Carroll Shelby, Bob Bondurant and a who's who of others associated in some way with racing during the period.
The Concours d'Provenance began as a tribute to the road races held at the Paramount Ranch, better known as the locale of many western movies and television shows. The second edition was held last year in the parking lot of Carroll Shelby's facilities in Torrance, California.
