GRITZINGER: I love the overall solid feel and power of this big brute, but I'm not sure how the Toyota badge, even with "Land Cruiser'' attached, can command this price. Then again, I didn't grow up driving Land Cruisers on National Geographic safaris, either. If I had, maybe I'd have a higher appreciation of all that heritage.
What I did appreciate, sticker price be damned, was this vehicle's sure-footed capability in some of the nastiest driving weather I've had to contend with this winter. There's nothing quite like driving on rain-slicked black ice on a two-lane paved back road with a line of cars ahead and behind. The topper: The car behind me was driven by a county sheriff, who seemed completely content to follow the trusty Land Cruiser for miles on end at 20 to 30 mph. Luckily, the big ute didn't let me down, rolling along without any apparent problem.
